New Students - Getting Started

Welcome to MCPHS University!

The following information is to help you get setup with all of your technology-related needs as you get started at MCPHS. While we've put together the most critical information on this page, be sure to check out the other areas of our site for more information on other technology tools and resources.

ID Badges & Photo Submission

All Boston, Manchester and Worcester based students receive an MCPHS Student ID card, which is required to be worn when you're on-campus. While some students have elected to take all online classes for the Fall 2020 semester, please still submit an ID photo so we can have your ID ready for you when you first come to campus whether it's later this fall or in the Spring.

Please follow all guidelines on the submission form to ensure your ID photo is not rejected. Be sure that the filename of your photo is your ID #, i.e. 0456789.jpg

When you're ready, submit your ID photo using our online ID Photo Submission form.

Wireless Access On Campus

There is wireless coverage available in all academic and residential buildings at MCPHS. All devices must be registered to obtain wireless access. When you first connect your device, open a web browser and navigate to a webpage. You'll be directed to our registration system where you'll sign in and run a "security check" that will verify your computer is up to date and has an anti-virus program installed with the latest updates.

Mac Users: We highly recommend installing anti-virus before you head to campus. This will accelerate the process of getting your device online when you come to campus.

For more information as well as further assistance with anti-virus, click here.

Blackboard

Blackboard is MCPHS' Learning Management System. This is where you'll find your course-related information and materials. You're likely already familiar with Blackboard as you've been going through New Student Orientation.

Digital Note-Taking

There are various tools and resources for digital note-taking.

Microsoft Teams

Microsoft Teams is the hub for team collaboration in Office 365. This is a great way to have audio and/or video meetings with other students, faculty/staff meetings and some classes. Create a "team" for a group project, study group, group of friends - whatever you can think of!

About Microsoft Teams

Office 365

MCPHS uses Microsoft Office 365 as the main Communication and Collaboration tool. This is where you can access your email as well as many other Microsoft apps. Your student account also allows you to install Microsoft Office products on up to 5 of your personal devices.

For more information, click here.

OneDrive

OneDrive is the Microsoft Office 365 cloud service that connects you to all your files. It lets you store and protect your files, share them with others, and get to them from anywhere on all your devices. We highly recommend saving all of your files in OneDrive so that they're always available and safe, even if you don't have access to your personal computer.

VMWare

VMware is a software and web app that allows you to connect to a virtual desktop from a desktop, laptop, smartphone, or tablet. The MCPHS virtual desktop is equipped with any specialized software that may be used in your classes.

About VMWare

Zoom

Zoom is enterprise video conferencing with real-time messaging and content sharing. MCPHS students have access to all features of a "paid" Zoom account.
